Gig Cancellations: COVID 19
I’m relieved to say that all of my gigs for this weekend and upcoming weeks are cancelled. Thanks to the venue owners for making the call/ understanding my position when I have, and will cancel them.
Come the start of the weekend, I was secretly hoping all of my gigs would have been cancelled. I was prepared to honor my bookings as the venues I was to be in, meant that I would have been well away from everyone. I thought as long as I take complete caution, I should be okay as it was still early days. A few more days have passed, and I’ve changed my stance from hoping it’ll be fine, to being too worried about it being safe. Safe for me, for my family and all of the people in this country.
Musicians never want to be the one to cancel. The fear of the venue taking it the wrong way, maybe not having you back along with the fact I am hardwired to be reliable and hate letting anyone down made me proceed with caution, but now this is different. We all have to do our bit to help the front-line staff who put everyone else first.
I know that our front-line heroes have no choice but to go to work and help. (Healthcare, Gardaí, Army, Fire Crew but also the lorry drivers, Home Help, GP’s, Pharmacists, Shop Suppliers, and Grocery store staff etc.) that need to keep the essentials open. So I want to thank them all so very much for all they are doing. We need to do special things to say thanks to them when this is all over.
I’m not writing this to scare monger people, but I do believe we still have a massive chance if we are all singing off of the same hymn sheet and do our bit. So yeah, here’s my first and last post on this, or anything too heavy more than likely!!
A few weeks apart from people won’t kill us, but ignoring the warnings may kill a lot more than we can even imagine. Please be selfless now more than ever. Please avoid doing unnecessary things and please look after yourselves and each other.
Stay strong everyone, we’ll have a hell of a session when it’s safe to do so. ❤️
